略歴

Career

Kaito Sato's career history.

2017-2022

I was at Ichinoseki KOSEN (National Institute of Technology, Ichinoseki College).

"I am going to research metal oxide materials in order to solve the problem where, during electrolysis, the anode is eaten away by oxidation and dissolves. I want to do chemistry."

That is what I said, and I got in on a recommendation. At the training camp right afterwards I spotted someone fiddling with their phone, and when I talked to them:

"I administer a home server."

so they said. The so-called white-letters-on-a-black-screen thing. Is there someone who does that on a phone? But to me back then it felt like, you can do that?! — and I went into the information and software track.

After that I did all sorts of things: built a quote management API to manage my teachers' memorable lines and got mildly told off, flew into a rage at a baffling web development assignment that banned dynamic libraries and developed my own SPA, got interested in Haskell and gave up because my mathematical ability was not enough.

Also, I became depressed.

2022-2024

I was in the thing called the Mathematics Program, Department of Science, Faculty of Science, Niigata University — a so-called math department. I acquired linear algebra, calculus, the basics of topology, plus something less than the basics of functional analysis.

I am not a studying person but a researching person, so the undergraduate years were seriously rough. Naturally my depression got terrible, and tears suddenly came out of me in the Central Library, and I phoned my mother and said

"I don't want to live and I don't want to die"

— that is what I remember. It turned into something like ADHD/ASD (the diagnosis came), plus depression and a sleep disorder as secondary conditions. Around this time I started calling psychiatry the pep shop (元気屋さん). You may use it.

2024-2026

I was in the thing called the Mathematical Science Course, Division of Mathematics and Physical Sciences, Graduate School of Science and Technology, Niigata University — a math graduate department with a long name. I helped with a problem my advisor suggested, then thought about a similar problem, solved it partially, and left with a master's. It is a preserver problem relating to harmonic analysis and abstract harmonic analysis, but only about one in ten thousand people would understand it anyway, so I will not write the details. But ask me and I will answer. It was the most rewarding and most fun period of my student life.

Also, my job offer came around September 2024, and from around the end of May 2025 I started a part-time job at Fuller, Inc. (387A) as an incoming hire. I deepened my understanding of modern architecture based on clean architecture, and of IaC. I was entrusted with some internal something and began building it. I did something on a few projects. I also contributed to Fuller's Digital Note.

Incidentally, in my first year of the master's I started dating a woman who came up to me on Twitter (as it was then) and we were going to live together, but I was dumped in a second and lost my mind. And I had gone to the trouble of changing my work location from Niigata to Kashiwanoha for it... If there is anyone, self-nominated or nominated by others, who would dote on me, please inject me with a huge amount of love.

2026-

I join Fuller, Inc. (387A) as a new graduate of the class of 2026. I am doing various training of some kind.

趣味

Hobbies

Things I like and what I am into day to day.

Black tea

I drink green tea, Chinese tea (Tieguanyin and so on) and hojicha too, but the main one is black tea. For Darjeeling, Makaibari Estate's autumnal or second flush; besides that I like Uva.

Fountain pens

My first encounter was using a KAKUNO for New Year's calligraphy in elementary school. It then reignited when I saw fountain pen users in my KOSEN days. I love the KAKUNO of course, and for gold nibs I use a Pilot Custom 742 FM in the translucent green barrel (a limited model — nice, isn't it~) and an Elabo metal barrel M (red). There was also a period when I used Sailor's Meigetsu (Setsugetsu Kuyo), though it broke. It is sad that KWZ IG Turquoise was discontinued. Being able to evangelise fountain pens in my Niigata University days is a good memory. I think my friends have melted several hundred thousand yen in total because I introduced them to PENBOX (Kobari, Nishi Ward, Niigata City).

Cats

Cats, I like them, you know...? ❤️

Tanka

Let me introduce only the masterpiece tanka. I will show the theme with an emoji.

(The original is given first, with a literal rendering underneath.)

❤️・🏥かたちなき淵にぞ映る青空の雲を眺むる君こそ知らね In a formless abyss they are mirrored, the clouds of the blue sky — and you who gaze at them are the very one who does not know.
❤️燻らせた煙に咽ぶ朝ぼらけ留まるところを知らぬと知らば Choking at daybreak on the smoke I let smoulder — had I only known it knows no place to come to rest.
🏥衝動は潰えてもはやにべもなし俯瞰は愚かアデハデの鬱 The impulse has collapsed and by now there is no warmth left; a bird's-eye view is folly — the depression of ADHD.
Camera

I bought a Nikon ZR. I plan to start shooting all sorts of things. The profile photo was also taken with the Nikon ZR.

Music

I grew up in my parents' band rehearsal space, so while I have no particular grounding in instrumental performance, I have perfect pitch and can analyse things in real time to a certain degree.

"That B7(b9,b13) just now, see, (omitted)"

I sometimes suddenly start reviewing like that.

Mathematics

The result of my master's thesis is that spectrum-preserving maps (with respect to the sum and to the pointwise product) between the positive cones of sequence spaces (\ell^1(\Z)_+) can each have their form determined (note, however, that the contribution to the former owes a great deal to my advisor, and that the latter is my own original work but is a result restricted to characteristic functions, arrived at by leaning heavily on the former result). I am in the middle of thinking about whether, after solving this completely, it can be generalised to locally compact groups or ordered Banach algebras. I am not someone who likes studying but an idea man who likes research, so if you know abstract harmonic analysis well, teach me things. If I can build the theory that generalises the result restricted to characteristic functions, I think there is not much of a gap left after that. Noncommutative, I dunno. My advisor and my advisor's advisor are doing something about that.

Fashion

I basically like cute things, so I wear nothing but women's clothes. That said, going into the women's section alone makes me self-conscious, so I buy things with female friends helping me choose. If you go to LaLaport Kashiwanoha you might find me there.

When I occasionally go to the office in men's clothes,

"Sato-san, so you wear that kind of thing too?"

is what people have started saying to me. It's the other way round.

製作

Works

Things I have made and worked on so far.

IMFMSynth

Official site

An 8-operator FM synthesizer plugin. I ship it as VST3 / CLAP / AU.

I did away with fixed algorithms and made it so that you route modulation between operators by drawing arrows on screen. Operators can also read Serum / Vital format wavetables. Envelopes are drawn by hand from multiple points, with a curve per segment. Besides that: a three-stage filter section, four modulation slots, an effect rack of drive, chorus, delay and reverb, DX7 .syx bank import, and a UI in 10 languages.

The concept is "Free is rough. Five figures is expensive. So I made the in-between." It is a one-time purchase, three machines per license, and it runs offline after the first activation.

The site has an in-browser demo of the real thing, with the C++ DSP compiled to WebAssembly, so you can play it on the spot.

Tanka sharing site

Frontend

Backend

Something like an SNS that I made in the era when I knew neither OIDC nor OAuth2 nor clean architecture. I have the feeling this was just the frontend, built in a few days as an application of meigens-api (a terrible API for managing KOSEN teachers' memorable lines) in order to show it at Fuller's internship interview. The selling point is that it uses WebSocket to auto-update the timeline from the server side. Also, for some reason it is built with SvelteKit.

Immoral University official site

Repository

Immoral University official site Introducing Immoral University, a chit-chat community of a bit over 20 men and women roughly in their 20s and 30s, through a Discord server and a Minecraft server. We play hard, we stay close hard, we live hard. Discord has club channels (cats, stationery, tanka, plushies, illnesses, tea ceremony, photography...) and a Times feature. To apply, go via the official site... (or so the official X says) Built with Next.js... I was particular about the design. The old me put the tabs at the top on both phone and PC, but "thinking about it normally, the top is hard to tap on a phone, so let's put them at the bottom!" is what I realised, and this is what I got from rebuilding it. Incidentally, this portfolio itself has had that same rework applied.
